File Types

Controls which file types people may attach to stories and comments, and it drives the "Accepted" hints they see.

  • The summary shows how many types are enabled, the maximum attachment size, and that executable files are always blocked. View Enabled Types lists every allowed extension.
  • Types are grouped in categories. Tick a category to enable all of it, or expand it and tick individual types. Changes save immediately. Badges mark Custom types and those rated Review or High Risk.
  • Add File Type creates your own: a display name, extensions, category, security classification, MIME types (or tick "I do not know the MIME type"), an optional size override and a description. Custom types can be edited and deleted; built-in types can only be switched on or off.
  • Restore Defaults returns built-in types to their original state without touching custom ones. Disable All Custom Types switches custom types off without deleting them.
