Groups
Every monitor belongs to a group. A group is either an application you run yourself or a customer whose websites you look after, and it is also the unit a public status page is built from.
The Groups list
Groups lists every group with its type (Application or Customer), an Archived badge where it applies, the company name or purpose, its website, when it was last checked, whether it has a status page, and how many monitors it holds. Use the eye icon to view a group, the pencil to edit it, or Add group to create one.
Creating a group
Click Add group and choose the Group type first, because it decides which details are asked for.
For every group:
- Name. Required.
- Status page slug. Optional. Lowercase letters, numbers and dashes, used in the status page address. Left blank, one is made from the name.
- Website URL and Description. Optional.
- Timezone. Shown on the group page for reference.
- Hosting provider. Optional.
- Status. Active or Archived.
- Internal notes. Optional. Never shown publicly.
Application details: Purpose (required), Environment (Production, Staging, Development, Internal or Other), Criticality (Low, Medium, High or Critical), Owner / team, Owner email and Internal reference, such as a repository or wiki page. Criticality also sets the priority of help desk tickets; see GVenta Help Desk integration.
Customer details: Company name and Contact email are required. You can also record the Industry, About the business, Primary contact and Contact phone, Billing email, your Account manager, an Account reference, the Service tier / plan, Customer since and Contract renewal date. The renewal date cannot be earlier than the customer-since date.
Public status page. Tick Publish a public status page for this group to set one up. See Public status pages.
Click Create group. Switching a group from one type to the other later clears the details that belong to the old type.
The group page
Open a group to see its details in two panels, Application or Customer and General, with the status page style and an Open page link when it is published. Below them:
- Open incidents for the group's monitors, if there are any.
- Monitors, each with its address, last check, SSL days remaining, status and the four monitor action buttons.
Add monitor starts a new monitor already placed in this group. Edit opens the group form.
Archiving and deleting
Setting a group to Archived takes its public status page offline. It does not pause the group's monitors: they keep being checked, they still appear on your dashboard and their alerts still go out. Pause each monitor first if you want the checks and alerts to stop. To remove a group for good, click Delete group at the bottom of its edit page and confirm. This permanently removes the group, every monitor in it and all of their check and incident history.
