Two WordPress stacks: NGINX and OLS
Press Mage offers WordPress hosting on two web servers, sold as two separate solutions: WordPress NGINX and WordPress OLS (OpenLiteSpeed). Under Add Solution both appear in the Hosting group, each with its own plans; the stack is set by the solution whose plan you buy.
Both stacks are managed from the same service page, with the same panels and actions: WordPress admin access, updates, users, the maintenance page, backups, security controls, SiteGuard and the Maintenance log all work the same way. What differs for you:
- Web server. The WordPress Hosting panel shows Web Server as NGINX or OpenLiteSpeed, and My Hosting shows the web server next to the plan on the card and in the table.
- Page caching. OLS sites run with the OpenLiteSpeed server cache switched on, which full-page caching plugins built for it (such as LiteSpeed Cache) can use. The LiteSpeed Cache plugin is not installed for you: to use the server cache, install and activate it from Plugins in WordPress admin. NGINX sites have no server-level page cache, so page caching there comes from a WordPress caching plugin of your choice.
Object caching is the same on both stacks: when the site has the object cache add-on, Manage Updates warns if the cache drop-in is out of date (see below).
The WordPress Hosting panel
The WordPress Hosting panel shows the plan, web server, database and storage, the PHP version, and the WordPress admin username and password (click Show to reveal, and the copy icon to copy).
Action links:
- Open WordPress Admin.
- View Mage Stats and View SEO Dashboard, when those add-ons are on.
- Manage Updates, described below.
- SiteGuard Protection opens the site's SiteGuard page; see Security.
- Manage Users and Manage Maintenance Page, described below.
- Restore & Clone puts the site back as it was in one of its backups, copies another of your WordPress sites into this one, or restores from a backup file downloaded from My Backups. Each option replaces this site's files and database. Cloning and restoring from a file need backups set up on this site first, because a safety backup is taken before anything is replaced.
- Sync PressMageAdmin refreshes the Press Mage administrator account on the site.
Below the panel, the service page shows the site's Maintenance Log; see Maintenance.
Manage Updates
Manage Updates opens the site's WordPress Updates page. It lists WordPress core, every installed plugin and theme with its version and whether an update is available, and pending translations.
- When updates are pending, the Back up before updating switch appears. It is on if the site has the backup add-on: a database dump and file backup then run before the first update of your visit, and the page is locked while the backup runs. If the backup fails, the update is not applied. Finished backups appear in My Backups. Without the backup add-on, updates run without a backup.
- Update WordPress core with Upgrade to …, a single plugin or theme with its Update button, or everything of one kind with Update All Plugins, Update All Themes and Update All Translations.
- A summary appears after each run. Anything that failed stays in the list and can be retried; a download failure usually means the plugin's licence or update source on the site needs attention.
If the object cache drop-in no longer matches the installed cache plugin, the plugins list shows a banner with Sync Drop-in.
Updates made on this page go to the live site straight away, but they are not written to the maintenance log. To have updates logged with a before-update backup, run them from Maintenance.
WordPress Users
Lists every WordPress user with their role. Change Role offers Administrator, Editor, Author, Contributor or Subscriber. Reset Password generates a new password immediately and shows it once; copy it and pass it on securely. The user is not emailed.
Maintenance Page
Design the page visitors see while Maintenance is switched on. Set a Page Title, a Background colour and optional CSS Styles, then edit the body in the visual editor or in Code View. Library in the toolbar uploads images (JPEG, PNG, GIF or WebP, up to 5 MB) and inserts them. Save applies changes immediately; Reset to default restores the standard page. Maintenance mode itself is switched from the status bar, not here.
