Understanding the numbers
Mage URL is careful not to claim more than it knows. These are the terms used on every page.
- Human clicks. Requests confidently identified as people. Dashboards, top lists and breakdowns count these unless you choose otherwise in the Reporting Center.
- Automated requests. Known bots, social preview bots (the services that fetch a link to show a preview card), security scanners, search crawlers and suspected automation. Kept apart and never counted as clicks.
- Unclassified requests. Requests that cannot be confidently identified either way. They are never assumed to be people.
- Total requests. Human, automated and unclassified together: every redirect served.
- Estimated unique visitors. Estimated from a privacy-preserving value over a 24-hour window. It does not identify anyone and is not a headcount.
- Approximate location. Derived from the network address, not from the device, so treat it as country-level. If location lookup is not available, location panels say so; clicks are still counted in full.
- Source and medium. The recorded
utm_sourceandutm_medium, either on the destination URL or added to the short link itself, never guessed from the referrer. - Referrers. Many apps and browsers send no referrer, so "Direct / unknown" includes hidden referrers as well as typed or bookmarked visits.
- Days. Every day is cut in the workspace timezone. Changing the timezone affects new figures; days already calculated keep the timezone they were calculated with.
Link clicks are not impressions, engagement or conversions. Individual click records are kept for 12 months. After that only the daily totals remain, so older periods still show their daily figures.
