UTM Builder and presets
UTM parameters are tags added to a destination URL so your analytics, and Mage URL's own reports, can tell where traffic came from. The UTM Builder (Owner, Administrator and Manager) builds them for you and keeps your team's spelling consistent.
Tagging a destination
- Paste the Destination URL.
- Optionally pick Start from a preset to fill the fields. You can still change them.
- Fill in Source (where the traffic comes from, such as
linkedin) and Medium (how it gets there, such associal, cpcoremail), and optionally Campaign, Term (a paid keyword) and Content (which creative or placement). - Tick Tidy the values to lower-case them and replace spaces with underscores. Reports group by exact text, so "LinkedIn" and "linkedin" would otherwise be counted as two different sources.
- Click Build tagged URL.
Your tagged URL appears at the top. Anything already on the URL is kept exactly as you pasted it. Copy tagged URL copies it, and Create a short link for it creates a short link straight away with the default settings (Active, 302), taking you to the Links page with the new link ready to copy.
Presets
Presets save the channels you tag most often, so everyone uses the same values.
- Save a preset asks for a Name (such as "LinkedIn Organic"), a Source and a Medium, and both are required: source and medium together identify a channel. Names must be unique in the workspace.
- Saved presets lists each preset with its source and medium. Delete removes one; links already tagged with it are unaffected.
Presets also appear in the UTM tags field when you create or edit a link.
