Link tracking with Mage URL

If your account uses Mage URL, Press Mage's link shortener, Mage Engage can shorten and track the links in your posts. When a post publishes, each link is swapped for a Mage URL short link carrying your UTM tags. What you wrote is never changed.

Connecting Mage URL

The Owner or an Administrator opens Integrations in the Admin group. Under Mage URL, enter:

  • Mage URL address. The address you sign in to Mage URL at.
  • API token. A Mage URL administrator makes one on Mage URL's API tokens page, with the Create links, Create campaigns and Edit campaigns permissions (add View analytics to reuse campaigns that already exist). It is stored encrypted and never shown again.
  • Shorten links by default on new posts. Each post can still turn it off.

Click Connect (or Save and test). The panel shows Connected or Not working with the last error, the workspace, address and when it was last checked. Test connection checks it again; Disconnect stops shortening, and posts go out with their original links.

Campaigns in Mage URL

Each Mage Engage campaign is created in Mage URL as "Brand · Campaign", and the short links for its posts are assigned to it. Archived campaigns are left out. The panel shows how many campaigns are in Mage URL; Sync campaigns now catches up. If the token lacks a permission, the panel says which.

On a post

With Mage URL connected, posts show Link tracking:

  • Shorten links with Mage URL. Untick to post links as written.
  • UTM tags: source, medium, campaign, term and content. Blank boxes use the defaults shown (source is the platform, medium is "social", campaign is the post's campaign).

Each platform variant can set its own, and blank boxes there use the post's values. Campaigns have their own UTM tags too. Links that already carry a UTM tag keep their own.
